PLEASE NOTE!
This retreat will be conducted on Zoom with Fr. Luke.
Times: Friday- 7:00pm
Saturday- 10:00am, 3:00pm, 7:00pm
Sunday- 10:00am
In this workshop we will ponder texts that reveal how the Christian Fathers and Mothers of the desert practiced a "reading" of the inner workings of the human heart that paralleled their meditation and contemplation of Sacred Scripture. We will focus principally on the writings of two early monks, Evagrius Ponticus and John Cassian; but we will also note how their insights influenced the popular visual culture of the late middle ages.
Fr. Luke Dysinger has been a monk of Valyermo since 1980. He is a priest and a physician who writes and teaches in the fields of mystical theology and biomedical ethics. He received a D.Phil. in patristics at Oxford University and is professor of church history and moral theology at St. John's Seminary in Camarillo, CA.
